Page Twenty-Six

Popped up, unnerved,

Awoken, perturbed.

A slumber disturbed,

Nap times, curbed.

Serpents toil uncurled'n'coiled

Twirled, unfurled, tempers boiled,

Stare down a tree,

Britches soiled,

Plans for shade

Made false, and foiled

To survive the wild

keep greased and oiled.

Do the body right,

And she'll be loyal.

Double double royal trouble

Fires turn to waters bubble.

Cause and effect,

Strike and deflect,

Once nameless,

Now leader elect.

...Until...

Eye to eye see we,

The Snake and me.

I thought the desert offered refuge,

I ran for shade, and there at the base,

The sun was blocked, not by flora,

But an agent of the deep,

Devil spawn, demon fauna.

O, the lies weaved in the eyes,

Spinning sights on the whims of light.

And brought to a fate of punishments

Worse than the clause committed. Commit me.

I'm crazy, and a danger to myself,

A hostage to my hope, and joy.

Though not even Death keep me for long,

So, insane, I carry the hell on.

Viper strikes swift,

Baring fangs,

Lunging bangs,

Flipped, skipped, and dipped out,

Dust settles upon nature's bout,

Losing more ground on second,

Bringing skid to halt,

A kid to fault,

Over enemy line's vault.

Clawing edged cliff,

Turn the page,

The boy's fate beckons.
